PORCELAIN HISTORY

After the First World War the demand for porcelain was big enough for saw mill owner Hans Schrembs to decide in 1921 to set up a porcelain factory. Porcelain Factory Erbendorf which primarily produced household ware was bought out in 1939 by Porcelain Factories Christian Seltmann (Weiden) producing here until today.

PLACES TO VISIT

By prior appointment Seltmann Weiden offers guided tours in Erbendorf through one of the world’s most modern plants for flat ware. You are invited to see the world of porcelain production and to take a close look on the results offered at factory sales.

Insight into Erbendorf’s urban and economic history is available at the Museum for local history and mining (Heimat- und Bergbaumuseum). Set up in a former monastery, the museum i.a. provides information about extinct occupations (note opening hours).

Woods and meadows in and around Erbendorf are quite vivid and inviting for relaxing excursions and sportive activities (e.g. along the Nordic walking course). Upper Palatinate Tower on mountain Platte (946 m above sea level) offers a wonderful panoramic view over this natural landscape. Tourist info provides hiking and guided tours for smaller or larger groups, e.g. on the traces of emperors and kings.
